RECENT RUNS & Chances to Lock Axles:
Nov 23-27 Thanksgiving - Turkey Trot. Area 52 in Panamint Vly:
The run did not formally get of the ground due to low interest/busy schedules. However, Eric could not hold himself back, and ventured down and sent a good trip report with some new trails he ran with the local club GearGrinders. They ran Last Chance Canyon, Trail Canyon, hiked to Morning Star Rancho. It could be counted as sort-of a 'pre-run' for TerryTrot, in that new trials were checked & tested. Thanks Eric.

Dec 10 Toys for Tots Run & Christmas Dinner:
As you know Gary opened up the American Legion Hall for the club but it was learned there are restrictions on minors since alcohol is served there. (ed: I don't know the rules on this.) But Lyle was able to squeeze us in at Antonella's on 5 pm Saturday. Thanks for both Gary & Lyle for offering their venues.

The run downtown went very smooth, as Terry carefully guided the 12 of us through downtown San Jose without spliting into smaller groups. The Marines thanked each of us with a KBAY music CD for donating the toys. I saw Terry & Brian speak with the Marines. The traffic cop there let us through as a group which helped. Terry said he knew him.
The dinner & desert was excellent. All had a good time. Brian,Terry,Alane,Aaron, Trevor, Randy,Eric,Rahul, Mario, Roger, Brad,Gary M,Tom, Paul E., and children.

For next year, Brian suggsted we each should add holiday lights onto our rigs, and have a contect for the best light scheme. Also suggested was a 'secret Santa' gift exchange, $15-$20 limit.

VEHICLE PAINS & PROJECTS
Eric- install new rock rail, headlamps on hew JK.
Stewart - will be installing new ball joints, tie rods on YJ, using extreme-duty Rubican Express & certain Moog parts, for better highway handling.

OTHER BUSINESS
1) I spoke breifly about what CORVA is doing in regard to the California Regional Water Control Board proposing various draconian estrictions upon the National Forests in California to limit what is perceived as deblitating erosion into streams due to OHV use in the forests. What's interesting is why this is now being identified as an issue, while jeep trials, grazing, lumbering activities have been ocurring in the forest for the past 50-150 years, and there have been numerous oppurtunities to address this in the past several years. To me, the water board is looking for fight to simply justify its own existence and go after the next low-hanging fruit. The Forest Service, after all of its route designation work, is essentially asking the same question too.

2. Eric has volunteered to take on duties of our new web wrangler, and yahoogroups maintenance. Terry to contact Hogan and/or Alicia for username & passwords and give to Eric so we can update our website & maillist.

3) Rahul has just met the requirements for membership (3 meetings, 2 runs) and was voted in to the lcub. Congrats Rahul !

UPCOMING RUNS

2011:
No more scheduled runs for 2011. But members are encouraged to propose a run anyway, just in cases some folks get the urge during the holidays & time off.

2012:
January 14 - Snow Run, Cow Mountain or Carrizzo Plain, TBD. For a snow run, Wentworth to Ice House is a good route, since it starts low and gradually climbs. We can climb as far as we can and turn around when it gets too deep/late/cold/wet/stuck. Cow Mountain got the best reception. A few members & I will be checking into it. Carrizo Plain is a big open area, is a National Monument, and has some dirt roads there. It may be more sightseeing that wheelin'. Los Padres NF also proposed for mild/scenic wheeling. If not much snow falls, some lower trails in the Sierra  may be open passable, but keep in mind the FS normally closes most native surface routes from Dec to April.

February 8-11 proposed: King of the Hammers Race in Johnson Valley near Mean's Dry Lake. Lots of good wheeling, easy to nasty. Run the trails and take in the exhibits on Wed & Thurs, and watch the final race on Friday.

February 16-20 President's Day weekend. Terry Trot to Death Valley & Panamint Valley; Thursday: optional drive day; Friday Feb 17: Drive or optional run: Charcoal Kilns & Mosaic Canyon, inside DVNP. Saturday: Pleasant Canyon, Middle Park. Sunday: Last Chance Canyon. About 5 or so rigs showed interest in this run. This is a great run for sight-seeing & mild wheeling for stock 4x4s. (Eric noted the BLM still has Chicken Rock closed).

March 31- April 8  Easter Jeep Safari - Randy & Lyle already signed up. If you missed the October Moab trip this a great time to run the red rock trails, and check out the Safari activities too. Randy & Lyle have planned the basic itinerary for the week. Their week will be a Wednesday to Wednesday. 1st Wed+Thurs: Drive to Maob. Then, Friday through Monday will be runs with & w/o Red-Rock 4Wheelers. Then onthe following Tues+Wed, drive home.
